About the Equinox

The ceremony of the equinox, which takes place in the majority of the pre-Hispanic pyramids of Mexico, gathers thousands of visitors from around the world, who congregate there at the arrival of the spring, dressed in white clothes and rise to the top of the pyramids in order to receive the energy that is believed that the pyramids receive from the universe.

With the equinox of spring the pre-Hispanic tribes initiated the sowing with the equinox from autumn the crop. In the pyramid of Chichen Itz?, in Yucatan, at the sunset of March 21st and September 22nd, days of the start of the equinoxes of spring and autumn respectively, a projection solar streamer is observed in the north stair of the Castle of Chichen Itz? ,that consists in seven triangles of light, invested, as a consequence of the shadow that project the nine platforms of that building, at sunset. The shadows connect with the head of the snake that is in the base of the pyramid. This snake represents Quetzalcoatl descending the pyramid in the direction to the sacred "Cenote". .

The equinox, gauge-astronomical phenomenon, is the moment in which the land is illuminated by the form equal sun in the northern hemisphere and in the south. This phenomenon exposes very well the cultural advance of the Maya, therefore its execution supposes the conjunction of astronomy, math, chronology, geometry and religion. .
