'Argo' Redux: Belgian Police Create Fake Movie to Arrest Alleged Pirate Kingpin

BRUSSELS -- The alleged pirate kingpin thought he was going to work in the movies. Instead he landed in jail.

In a sting operation worthy of Hollywood, Mohamed Abdi Hassan was lured from Somalia to Belgium with promises of work on a documentary about high-seas crime that would "mirror his life as a pirate," federal prosecutor Johan Delmulle said Monday.

But rather than being behind the camera as an expert adviser, Abdi Hassan ended up behind bars, nabbed as he landed Saturday at Brussels airport.

"(He's) one of the most important and infamous kingpin pirate leaders, responsible for the hijacking of dozens of commercial vessels from 2008 to 2013," Delmulle said.

Abdi Hassan — whose nickname, Afweyne, means "Big Mouth" — was charged with hijacking the Belgian dredger Pompei and kidnapping its nine-member crew in 2009, Delmulle said.

The Pompei's crew was released after 10 weeks in captivity when the ship's owner paid a reported $3 million ransom. Belgium caught two pirates involved in the hijacking, convicted them and sentenced them to nine and 10 years in prison.

But prosecutors still wanted the ringleaders.

"Too often, these people remain beyond reach while they let others do the dirty work," Delmulle told reporters.

Malaysian authorities almost captured the reclusive Adbi Hassan in April 2012, but a document from the Somali transitional government let him slip back home, according to a U.N. report last year that called him "one of the most notorious and influential" leaders of a piracy ring that has netted millions in ransom.

So Belgian authorities decided to go undercover to get him, because they knew he traveled very little and that an international arrest warrant would produce no results in unstable Somalia.

They approached an accomplice known as Tiiceey, dangling a fake job as an adviser to a fake movie about piracy, Delmulle said.

The two men took the bait. Tiiceey was also arrested Saturday.

The prosecutor refused to divulge any more details of the sting. The two Somalis were to appear in court Tuesday in Brugge.

Camille Grammer undergoes surgery for cancer

Camille Grammer had a "radical hysterectomy" after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer, her rep said.

Former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer "underwent a radical hysterectomy" Friday, Howard Bragman, her representative, told People magazine.

Bragman said that the 45-year-old reality personality had been diagnosed with early stage endometrial cancer. According to the Mayo Clinic, endometrial cancer begins in the uterus, and when discovered early, is often cured by removing the reproductive organ.

Grammer's "surgery went well and she is expected to make a complete recovery following a significant recuperation period," Bragman said.

The former model starred on Bravo's hit series "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" in the first two seasons, and appeared in several episodes of season three.

She was married to "Cheers" and "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer for 14 years. The former couple have two children together via surrogate.

Just days ago, she tweeted in anticipation of the new season of "RHOBH," which premieres Nov. 4 on Bravo.

PS3 USB headsets won't work with PS4 at launch, patch to come 'in the future'

If you were planning to use a PlayStation Pulse headset with your PS4 at launch, Sony has some bad news. Until there's a system update "in the future" (still time to fix it before November, guys!) you won't be able to use any of the firm's USB headsets with the PlayStation 4, the company told Game Informer. However, any headset that uses a TOSlink cable to feed audio data -- meaning, most cans over $100 -- will still work. You won't be able to use said headphones or Bluetooth to chat, although Astro said it will patch the former in later. Apparently, if you want the PS4 experience to be as or more talkative than the PS3's, you'll have to resort to the pack-in earbud kit.

U.S. Army Africa exercise Shared Accord 13 kicks off this week

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (July 23, 2013) -- U.S. military forces are teaming up with South African National Defense Forces for Shared Accord 13, near Port Elizabeth, July 24-Aug. 7, 2013.

Shared Accord is an annual training exercise involving in-depth joint cohesion between U.S. and South African military forces during multiple training scenarios.

"This mission is designed to increase interoperability and build friendships with the South African Defense Force," said Maj. Chuck Slagle, executive officer for 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

The exercise involves many participants to include about 700 American military members from the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force and more than 3,000 South African National Defense Forces, or SANDF, members.

"Anybody can learn from anyone. We definitely learn from each other and can contribute our expertise to these exercises," said South African Military Health Services Capt. Fran?ois Van Huyssteen, veterinarian with the Military Veterinary Institute.

Shared Accord 13, or SA 13, is a large-scale operation that will include multiple training missions to test the capabilities of both militaries. It will include an amphibious assault, combined live-fire exercise, situational training exercises and a tactical airborne assault, which will lead into a Humanitarian Civic Action event, known as an HCA, for the South African community.

"It's great having all the Americans here," said Sgt. Maj. Andrew Stanley, watch officer for SA 13. "It shows the military capabilities and also the cooperation between the different forces."

HCA will provide health services to include dental, HIV screening and ophthalmology services, Slagle said.

Another aspect to HCA will be mobile veterinary services to include rabies vaccinations and tick treatments, Van Huyssteen said.

Through all of the exercises in SA 13, both militaries hope to improve skills while learning from one another.

"We're both here to learn," said Slagle. "The South Africans have a lot of experience and really we're just sharing. We're not training them on anything. We're improving each other through this exercise."

Microsoft to sell 256GB Surface Pro in the US, but only through certain resellers

Did you look on Japan with envy as Microsoft launched a 256GB Surface Pro in the country, leaving other countries with modest storage? New orders will still take a few days to ship, but it could be worth the wait for the ultimate version of Microsoft's official tablet.
