Strength training for the mind, body and spirit is all gain

Strength training is one important component of overall health and choosing a retirement residence with good facilities will allow you to nurture your mind, body and soul. If you had to, could you lift a 5 or 10 lb. bag of potatoes? How about unscrew the lid of a sticky jar? Are you able to lift that big, heavy casserole dish off the shelf without faltering? If you struggle to complete any tasks that involve arm, shoulder, chest or finger and hand strength, then strength training is for you. Strength training makes the human body physically stronger. Your increased strength will give you the confidence to perform daily tasks more efficiently and lessen the chances of injury. The less you have to rely on others, the more independently you can live your life and the more you can nurture your mind and spirit.

Strength training can also help:

  • Improve bone mineral density in fight against osteoporosis
  • Reduce arthritic discomfort
  • Increases sense of balance by building stronger connective tissue and increasing joint stability
  • Control blood sugar levels for diabetics
  • Increase lower back strength and alleviate lower back pain
