ITV admits using video-game footage in IRA program (AP)

DUBLIN ? Britain's television network ITV admits that a documentary about the Irish Republican Army mistakenly used a scene from a video game and claimed it was a real IRA attack.

Monday night's broadcast of "Exposure: Gadhafi and the IRA" recalled how deposed Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi supplied the outlawed IRA with weaponry in the mid-1980s.

The documentary lifted footage from the Internet that shows a clip from a military simulation game called Arma II. The program falsely described it as footage of a 1988 IRA attack on a British Army helicopter.

ITV spokesman James MacLeod blamed "the editing process" and "an unfortunate case of human error" for use of the video game footage.

Arma II depicts a U.S. special forces mission in a fictional former Soviet republic.
