Fans of the Diablo games are having their patience tested once again this week. Blizzard have announced that Diablo III has suffered from yet another release delay as part of its quarterly financial results report.
Originally, the game was expected to release before the end of 2011. But that was ruled out in September when Blizzard said the game would no longer arrive that year. The only plus point from that decision was an extension of the closed beta for players. No details were given as to why the game was being delayed, but a call for more testers at the time says a lot.
The revised date was a very vague ?early 2012,? but even that target could not be hit. The latest estimate for delivery of the game is the second quarter of this year, meaning any time between April 1 and June 30. The delay is thought to be due to some major design changes being implemented for the title. Design changes at this late stage are pretty serious and means the amount of testing required increases substantially. Blizzard is right to delay if that?s the case, otherwise they?d potentially be releasing a buggy game.
If you?re one of the gamers waiting for Diablo III, there?s two ways of looking at this. The first is to be angry at Blizzard for continuing to delay the game. The second is to realize Blizzard usually get things right when they release a title, and they wouldn?t keep delaying a launch without a very good reason. Diablo III should be a better experience because of it.
