Irish Blow Early Lead, Lose To Florida State In Champs Sports Bowl
December 30, 2011 Updated Dec 30, 2011 at 1:09 AM ESTORLANDO (Indiana's NewsCenter) - E.J. Manuel threw two fourth quarter touchdown passes as Florida State rallied from a 14-0 deficit to top Notre Dame 18-14 at the Champs Sports Bowl Thursday night.
The Irish led 7-0 at the half on the strength of a Zeke Motta 29 yard fumble return for a touchdown in the first quarter, and extended it to 14-0 early in the third on a five yard Tommy Rees to Michael Floyd touchdown pass.
But the Irish lost Floyd to an injury and bogged down on offense after that.
Rees threw two interceptions, both in the end zone, one of them in the first quarter, the other late in the fourth quarter when the Irish were driving to take the lead,
Bishop Dwenger grad Tyler Eifert caught six passes for 90 yards in what may have been his final game in a Notre Dame uniform.
